Once the laws were repealed in mid-1866, the Reconstruction began from late 1865-1877. This was a time where presidents such as Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and Ulysses Grant tried to return the United States south and places with great amount of slaves back to normal. Lincoln wanted to allow newly freed African Americans the right to vote and have a place in society. Grant agreed with Lincoln decisions and wanted to increase the protection of African Americans and wanted to suppress the Ku-Klutz-Klan. On the other hand, Grant opposed these ideas and was not a big supporter of Lincoln's ideas. The reconstruction was a plan to rebuild the areas that had racial discrimination and Lincoln tried to fix that.
