Jim Crow Laws were established in 1877 and continued through the mid 1960s . African Americans continue to encounter problems. These laws were another part to the racial discrimination that African Americans faced throughout history. The Jim Crow laws divided everything in cities between "colored" and whites. Theaters, restrooms, water fountains, and any other public accommodations were separated at this time. African Americans were not ever allowed to go in the whites section. Everything was either labeled "WHITES ONLY" or "COLORED ONLY". Black and whites never mixed in public places. Even on transportation African Americans were forced to sit behind whites because they wanted to be first and feel as if they are always in power or in control of black people. Jim Crow laws were another way for whites to express their ideas on equality.
(Jim Crow Character)
The Jim Crow was played by a white man covered in black paint trying to impersonate an African American person. This was meant as an insult to the African American community by making Jim Crow illiterate to show that it was how they saw black people.
