Black Codes were laws to limit African American rights that were established in 1865 and would not have been repealed in 1866 without the help of John Jones who exchanged his ideas with fellow activist and explored ways to have freedom for everyone. Without the repeal of the laws, our lives would drastically change for the worse. Once the civil war ended, these laws were put into place to further limit the rights of African Americans.
